My favourite spot

We moved into our house in November 09, and after a lifetime of renting and moving every 9 to 12 months, the feeling of “settled” didn’t quite stick in our heads.

We hated the colour of some walls, yet we never seemed to manage to paint them. Same with lights, orientation, and you catch my drift – we still were in renting mode.

It took a year to get the courage to paint our kitchen. It went from pale “meh” green (yes, “meh” is a shade, the shade of “well… that’s supposed to be green but it’s so boring…. meh”) to bright orange. I like my rooms bright and personal. Months later, we decided it was about time I finally turned the studio into a place I could call home.

The walls went from vanilla “meh” (see above and substitute green for vanilla) to crisp, bright white, with a feature wall in beautiful lime green – the background for Chambourcin, if you’re curious!

Some time after that we finally got around to putting shelves, moving my stash to the place it was always supposed to be – before it was locked up in drawers, dark. Now it’s out there, showing me love and inspiring me. Not going to lie, it also does a second job… it shows me how much yarn I have. How I can’t possibly NEED more yarn, and it makes me discover skeins I forgot I had.

Funnily enough, we measured the area under those shelves, and we found a home for our “renter’s couch” – the one we bought when we needed one and once we got this house, looking ridiculous in the huge living room and having been given a huge sofa, that poor little soul was relegated to a corner, unattended.

It fit perfectly.

I actually always liked our old couch. Its fabric is textured and cozy, so it lends itself to great naps good stretches of work. Lots of cushions mean my back is supported. The height is perfect for my legs to touch the ground, or stretch out.

My entertainment unit (aka old laptop) sits in my sample box, playing DVDs, while I’m under the blanket, knitting away, checking numbers on my iPad and working away.

I’ve only had this corner for some months, but I love it. It truly is my fave spot.

What’s your favourite spot? Is it indoors? Outdoors? What colours are featured in your happy place?

I’d be a little nervous sitting under those very full shelves!  I wish I had a couch in my craft space. But honestly even if I did I’d probably still prefer knitting on the big one in our living room because it’s next to the wood stove…

Oh, Becky they are well anchored to the wall (the main one we couldn’t even tear down if we wanted)

I am, however, insanely jealous of a wood stove. I don’t know why recently I can only daydream of fireplaces, so warm and inviting…

I love that you hair is wet in this photo! I have curly hair, too & really dislike blowing it dry now that it’s past the middle of my back. I’m constantly running around my house with the top half pinned off my face waiting for it to dry. Apparently, I’m not the only one!

Oh, and I have no spot all my own for knitting. I’m either at the kitchen table (where  my laptop normally resides) while designing a pattern or if my kiddos are asleep, cozied up on a loveseat with my hubby while we watch a movie or he plays video games.

I HAVE to blow-dry it or it just goes bananas – but I had to take the picture while the light was still good, so wet it was!

I have this idea that your house is one of those dreamy country houses with a huge kitchen and lots of craftiness :)

I have the perfect oversized chair sitting in the corner of my loving room next to a window. There are pillows & an ottoman, if I need them, and a table beside me for my laptop & cuppa. I even have a pretty metal planter under the table for me to stash my WIP when I’m not knitting. :)

Sounds perfect, Aimee – planned and cozy!
