New dress!

Happy Monday everyone!

How do you like my new look? Dannielle Cresp and I have been working on the new rock+purl look for a while and I’m happy to present it to you!

Not only have we tweaked some of the directories for faster, easier browsing, but we have a brand new slider at the top of the frontpage so you can see the latest designs in rotation. Pretty nifty, eh? I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

This weekend marked the first post of the second series of guest bloggers – Brandi Hussey wrote about why she loves what she does, and oh goodness are her palettes pretty! I have Brandi on my rss reader because I just love seeing her colourful palettes, they brighten up my day.

In knitting news, I started my wedding shawl. A while ago on twitter I had questioned whether the yarn I chose in the middle of the yarn-fumes that was Vogue Knitting Live in Los Angeles was actually the shade I remembered it to be.

I bought this yarn from RedFish Dyeworks that I believed was silver grey. Why did I all of a sudden think it was green? Studies against my dress and against a white piece of paper made twitter decide it was really grey.

And grey it seems to me!

I mentioned on Friday night on one of my tweets that there is no elegant way to start a circular shawl with cobweb silk. There really isn’t. I tried my usual slump on the sofa cast on and it got all tangled up. I’m using a huge circular needle because I happen to know that this will be a huge shawl and I don’t have matching dpns to do the small start with – I ended up sitting at a table until I was 10 rows in and had a good grip on the order of needles.

I’ve also worked a bit on my Anzula shawl. I’m 12″ in and loving it!

For the most part, the pattern is easy – there’s a couple of rows that are still testing me, but I bet it’s the sort of thing that I’ll learn soon enough! This shawl has shown me the value of designing your own lace patterns and I am loving a small back and forth project compared to all the garments and huge circular wedding shawl in my life!

What have you been up to this weekend?

Oh my, those are going to be stunning!  This weekend, I crocheted the second of 9 large granny squares (12 rounds) for blanket that has 89 squares of three sizes through out… I’m a whopping 7 squares in for the first week.  I also started a lace shawl – frogged it four times now because I just realized that I’m not a knitwit, the pattern is wrong!  That was refreshing so now I’m going to frog it again and restart with the knowledge that I am not a drooling monosyllabic fool who can’t read a pattern… it’s a win-win, right… lol.

Holy crochet! What colors are you using on that blanket?

I watched a game that shall not be mentioned, worked on a particularly hard puzzle with my hubby, kids and mom, and did laundry. Oh, the glamor of a weekend in Iowa!

Can I just mention that I’m duly impressed that you’re working on not merely one, but two shawls? That’s pretty nifty & adventurous!

One of them is my own pattern, the other one is a modification on a classic – its quite refreshing to follow directions and not create them!

I started a matching pair of mittens for a current hat design (that I’m overhauling right now), finished my 5-year old’s new mittens (complete with i-cord), and started the test knit for my first sweater design.  Oh, and I also did homework.  I didn’t get to see one minute of the game :(

Hey you were very productive, missy!! Considering the amount of coursework you must have, I’d say that’s a successful weekend.

I mostly knit on a colorwork sweater for my toddler. I also watched a lot of Torchwood. We had a birthday/football party for my oldest yesterday.

Oh, cute, colourwork on a kid is always nice!! I’m beginning to feel jealous I missed the game…

I started another pair of gloves for a friend, sold off some of the stash, and watched football with a few friends.
