Reasons and (good) news

Some of you may think – Ruth, why on earth are you talking so much about technical editing nowadays?

- 5 steps to an awesome pattern

- Tech Editing –  the why, the how, the who.

Quite plainly because in a couple of weeks time I have to stop working on my self-publishing single patterns.

Not forever, no!!

I’m writing a book.

The only way I know I will squeeze the whole thing in a short(ish) period of time (aiming to have a photoshoot before autumn) is to concentrate all my efforts in the book, set all self-publishing aside to ensure the work is done entirely at once.

I’ve a couple of patterns to come out this year, but after that, I cannot work on any other project that is not a book project or stuff I’ve signed contracts for.

And as such, I will need to increase my technical editing business and one-on-one coaching and teaching to make up for the decrease in the spike sales that happens whenever I release a new pattern.

So…

  • if you are a beginner designer wanting to have a map to follow and someone to answer your burning questions, hire me for coaching.
  • If you need to learn grading or discuss sizing, hire me for lessons.
  • If you have patterns that need editing, hire me to tech edit.

Because mama needs to have coffee to drink and a roof to work under while she writes her book!!!

I took one of Ruth’s grading classes this summer and it was eye opening!  My entire design process is faster, more accurate, and I’m considerably more confident than I ever was before.  I feel better about approaching yarn companies for yarn support (thanks for that push Ruth), and about my ability to actually produce what I’ve submitted.  Take this class!  It’s worth every single cent.

Cambria, thank you so much for your comment – I think I’ve seen you grow lots as a designer in the past months and hope you have a bright future ahead of you!

SQUEEE! Oh, congratulations on the book! I can’t wait to hear more about it — what will you be focusing on?

Well, my detailed, tailored, full range of sizes and feminine look… OF COURSE!

So happy to hear about the book – are you going to be able to talk more about it?

Yes! I’m doing with Cooperative Press and I’ve been thinking of blog posts I can show snippets from without completely giving the details away!

Congratulations on the book deal! I will, of course, be coming to you for more TE work as I continue to self-publish. I’ll be curious to hear about your experience with Cooperative Press (as a designer with a publishing background).
