Hats are the new black

There often comes a time in the tech editor’s life where projects seem to be ALL the same.

This January, it’s hats. I’ve had beanies, tams, cloches, slouchies, chunky, dk, fingering, lace, ribbed, moss-stitched, fair isle, cabled,…. ANYTHING in a hat. You won’t see me complain. There’s a lot of variety that can be input into a hat, and they’re short&sweet projects:

Cast on, work upwards, decrease, done.

Or,

Cast on, work downwards, cute bind off, done!

Heck, even I have designed several – one submission, one that’s coming out in a magazine soon and one that I released just last week.

Most of them, including this one above (Sincerely Yours)

can be worked up in an afternoon.

I wonder if this has to do with the weather in the Northern hemisphere. It’s bitterly cold up here and we just want to cover up our ears. I must admit I design hats that can fit my hair – call me vain, but any style other than a beret makes my hair flat and ugly! Also, according to HRH The Mistress of Hats Herself, it suits my face better.

What’s your favorite type of hat?

A slouchy beanie is my favourite.

HRH the Mistress of Hats would also like to mention that Hats can be knit anyway but vertically, too… like sideways or diagonally or transversely or modularly or.. ;)

and berets do suit you very much.

(hey, you wrote a blog post about Hats! of course I’m gonna comment!)

I love hats! I now live in the southern part of the US (after moving from the cold north) and it only really gets cold enough to wear a hat. No need for mittens most days. I found that a slouchy hats looked best on me when I was going through chemo. It looked like I had hair tucked up in the hat.

Tams usually work for me because I’ve just got so much hair and it’s so curly, but this year I had to go for the neck warmer on my head just to get it all covered, lol.  Lots of compliments though!
