Throughout my life (2)

A thing that ties together our lives, childhood and adulthood. Read about Victoria’s anchor through the years. — Rock & Reverence I don’t remember much about the moment I picked it up. A vague, sunny, autumn day maybe? It couldn’t have been winter. Where I grew up, on the shore of a Great Lake, it would have been unlikely to make such a golden discovery with a foot of snow on the ground. I’m going to stick to a delicious fall day. That fits my treasure’s character. At first it was nothing. Just a rock. Shiny. Polished. Warm in hue. Varied in pattern. But just a rock....

Throughout my life… what has been a constant? Have you changed paths continuously to have the thrill of something new? Sheryl Means opens our new topic this month. Read on. — Throughout my life I have been a creator. Rarely did the focus of that creative spirit remain on a singular track, as the only other thing about me that is constant…is my inconsistency. Don’t ask me about my favorite color. The answer will depend on the mood I am in at that moment. Passions, hobbies, foods, and furniture, all have been subject to my changing whims. There was a time when I viewed...

The Banquet   Long before I knew this print was titled “The Banquet,” I knew that behind the door, long low tables were lined with friends and strangers, laughing, talking, and toasting one another—and waiting for me to join them. I bought the print when I was 25 years old and living in Japan. I'd arrived there a year and half earlier, intensely shy and insecure, fleeing a miserable job and a string of unhappy relationships; at the age of 24, I was already desperate for a do-over in life. I was like that once… I really started knitting pretty much right around the time I got married. This was a total coincidence. The first thing I knit was a baby blanket. This sparked some rumours. I can see why. I knit...

With this new series of our Blogstars writers, we approach a topic that fills many of us with a sort of undefined feeling. The opening paragraph from Laura’s post below puts it into words much better than I could. Read on… — When consider the phrase ” I conquered”, I think of some kind of epic mountaineering expedition, like climbing Mount Everest, that I have not done, and will not ever do… and then I was like “I haven’t conquered anything… I am not a conqueror!”
But you know what? Turns out I do have a few conquests under my belt! What I have conquered...

Outside my window (3)

Allyson is a fellow knitting designer – she has gorgeous urban landscapes waiting for us… — I’ve been living in both Minneapolis MN and Chicago IL for the past two years. My boyfriend is on a career finding mission and moved from Chicago to New York City to Minneapolis in 2010, and I’ve been spending a few months here and a few months there ever since. So, yes, obviously I can’t commit. But you wouldn’t be able to commit after spending time in both of these cities, too. ; ; I moved to Chicago in 2003 for college and never left. It’s a crazy fun city full of...
